Welcome to fencing in Vermont! If you are new to the sport or moving here from out of state and would like to get involved, go to the "Clubs" page of this website for contact information on all Vermont fencing clubs. The 2007-08 season is underway. Check the "Tournament Schedule" page, which will be updated as tournament dates are confirmed. For the Champlain Cup league rules and current point standings, check out the "Point Standings" page.

2008 Senior Sectionals: note change of venue. Senior Sectionals will not be held in Vermont this year because our arrangement with UVM fell through and we could not find an alternative location in time. Senior Sectionals will be held at Mission Fencing Center on Long Island.

2008 Summer National Qualifers: Please note! There has been a change of venue. The qualifers will be held at the UVM tennis courts on 4/12/08 (Foil) and 4/13/08 (Epee and Sabre). Please preregister on Askfred . Events that do not have enough preregistered participants will be cancelled.

Some things you should know about competing at Green Mountain Division tournaments:

  • The Green Mt Division is now using www.AskFred.net for preregistration and posting of tournament results. AskFred is a powerful tool that not only lets you sign up (and save $5 off your entry fees if done at least a week in advance), but also see who else has signed up, as well as contact the tournament organizers and get directions to the venue. We will also continue to provide meet manager contact details, tournament schedule, and results on this website, but updating of these may lag behind AskFred due to the time availability of our volunteer webmaster. If you are new to AskFred (the Fencing Results and Events Database), here is how to use it: Go to www.askfred.net. Click on "Upcoming Events" then on "Browse Events" in the drop-down menu. When the dialog box opens, choose All Divisions and select Green Mt from the drop-down menu. Click on Find Tournaments. You will then see a list of upcoming local tournaments. To the left of the tournament name are some small clickable buttons. Mousing over them displays what they are for. Click the button with the check-mark in it to preregister. The first time you use AskFred, you will need to enter your name and information about yourself (contact details, ratings, club and division). After that it will be automatic.
  • Entry fees are $15 for the first event/$5 each additional event, with a $5 discount if preregistered at least one week in advance. Canadian cash accepted for entry fees at par from Canadian citizens! (Especially nowadays....).
  • As per USFA rules, only fencers born in 1994 or earlier are eligible to compete in non-age group events (Opens, D, E, U, Div II, Div III etc.) . Fencers born in 1995 or later are restricted to age group events according to their birth year as follows:
GMD Youth Series Y12 Foil events: 1995 and later
GMD Youth Series Y14 Epee and Sabre events: 1993 and later
Summer National Qualifiers: 1992-95 (cadet events) 1993-96 (Y14 events)
  • Those who preregister at least one week in advance for a tournament will receive a $5 discount. To preregister, call or e-mail the meet manager (listed in tournament schedule) with your name, club, rating and event(s) you plan to enter. Please remember to notify the meet manager if your plans change, so that we will not be waiting for you.
  • With the exception of qualifiers, our events are mixed (men and women) unless otherwise noted, but may be split if there are 15+ competitors of each gender. Smaller events may sometimes be split by consensus of the fencers.
  • USFA membership (or Canadian equivalent) required unless otherwise noted. If you do not have your card with you, be prepared to register with the USFA at the tournament.
  • Posted event times are close of registration. Please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before the posted time.
  • Free hospitality in the homes of local fencers is always offered to competitors traveling from afar and their immediate families. Alternatively, we would be happy to provide you with listings of local hotels and BandBs. Contact the meet manager at least one week in advance to make arrangements.
Note From The Webmaster

Greetings fellow fencers! As the new webmaster for the GMD website I'd love to hear what you would like to see available here as resource! One thought is to post a link on each results page to pictures from the tournaments. If anyone has any pictures, or ideas please send them to tdartt@sluggy.Net Please make sure to put VTFENCING as the first word in the subject!

If you haven't joined the GMD mailing list yet, I'd encourage you to do so! It's the best way to discuss fencing and division issues with your fellow Vermont fencers, and to share your ideas and opinions with your division executive committee. We want to have the most democratic division in the USFA with the most grassroots input, so get involved!

Howdy! I've tried to add a site search option :) Let me know if it is useful!

We have a page of information about the Qualifiers. Please check this page for answers to your questions about qualifying for the Junior Olympics and/or Summer Nationals, then ask more questions if you're still not sure about the process.

We have a mailing list. Join the Green Mountain Division mailing list here.

The website has been revised, and the pages have new names. This means that bookmarks and links that refer directly to the pages will not work now. Please make sure your bookmarks and links refer to the site itself, http://www.vtfencing.org, and they will always work.
